A bread and egg casserole. Can be made savory or sweet.
This is a 2-day recipe, so plan ahead.
Ingredients:
· 1 loaf stale bread, any kind will do as long as it’s stale and dry
· 8-10 eggs
· 1+ cup milk
· Small loaf of bread will feed 6-8. The more bread you add, add more egg/milk mixture.
Savory:
· Bagels, sourdough, mix of breads, rye, pumpernickel, rosemary, etc
· Add shredded or cubed cheese of choice
· Add cooked meat of your choice: bacon crumbles, sausage crumbles, ham cubes etc
Sweet:
· Plain or cinnamon bagels, cinnamon swirl bread, sourdough, etc
· My personal favorite is cherry or apple pie filling. It can be canned or homemade.
· Make it into a cinnamon roll with sweet cream, cinnamon and sugar mixed into the egg mixture.
Instructions:
· Pre-heat smoker or oven to 350 degrees
· Grease casserole dish
· Cut all bread into bite size chunks, similar to croutons
· Beat eggs and milk together
· Put all bread into dish
· Pour egg mixture over bread chunks
· If you are adding anything else, stir in now
· Cover and refrigerate overnight
· Next day, Cook for 1 hour or until done
